Good crochet stitch to use on a baby blanket?

It all depends what you are looking for, I am expecting myself and plan on making a baby blanket once I find out if we are having a boy or a girl....we decided not to find out....and where we live its hot! So I am going to make something that probably is lighter and more airy w/larger holes...crochet tends to lend itself to bigger holes anyway....one of its main purposes was/is to compose lace and lacey like patterns, anyhoo, I am a beginner myself working on a throw using just double crochets with a very pretty variegated yarn...and its looking pretty nice with out large holes, then I am going to add some kind of fun border, I would suggest checking out Bernat http://www.bernat.com/, they have a great deal of baby patterns, good luck :) Oh and there is a really easy pattern on Red Heart....http://www.redheart.com/free-patterns/coziest-baby-blanket-ever...in alot of cases I find the yarn can make a huge difference in a pattern, look of the final product and you can get away with simple stitches that look great!
