Thyroidectomy Advice?

I'm 16 and I have an overactive thyroid. I wanted to ask a few questions about getting it removed. I hate having to take meds everyday and I understand I'd have to take hormone meds after. Would it be better to have it removed? I researched it and there are a lot of side effects post-surgery. I wanted to get it removed because my doctor said I'll be on meds for the rest of my life for it, but this was before I knew I'd have to take meds for it after also! Ughh, and what about the iodine solution? Radiation? Any preferences? Advice? Anything?
